Strokes

These are the four strokes of drumming.  If you play with these in mind, your playing will be cleaner and more accurate and eventually faster than you could think you could handle.

  1. Full – start High end High
  2. Down – start High end low
  3. tap – start low end low
  4. up – start low end high

You can incorporate these into your practice sessions and before long you will recognize how they are used in your everyday drumming.

A simple learning the strokes exercise would be:

up-Down-tap-up-FULL-FULL-Down

-play with one hand, repeat with other hand (if you have one, sorry Rick Allen).
